Youth Leadership Spotlight

Malia

Hello, my name is Malia Burgos and I am in the 8th grade at HALS Academy. I play softball for New Britain and basketball for Connecticut Spirit. I also enjoy music and take piano lessons. Being in the Youth Leadership Council has taught me many valuable lessons and brought me closer to people in positive ways. It is important to spread awareness about youth drug abuse and I am glad I am able to be a part of this group.

Alanise

Hello, my name is Alanise and I'm a sophomore at NBHS. I participate as a Cane’ette and I dance at the YWCA. I go to the House of Teens afterschool program, and I’m a student teacher at the YWCA. I like that as a Youth Leadership Council member I can help prevent youth from making bad decisions. The Council is important because we educate youth and the community about the consequences of vaping, smoking marijuana and underage drinking.

Daniel

Hello! My name is Daniel and I’m a sophomore at New Britain High. When I’m not participating in the Youth Leadership Group, I enjoy playing music, learning new instruments, playing volleyball, and hanging out with friends. It is very important to have passions outside of school to try and provide healthy outlets and activities which keep me moving. I’d like to go to college to study as a choir director or music teacher. One thing I’d like to tell my peers is to live your best life!
