Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC)
Healthy Living is an enhancement endeavor with Brookside School. This program is designed to have youth exposed to three areas of academic enrichment. The areas of focus are: Cooking with Cultural Diversity which will expose youth to a variety of cultures through food experiences, entrepreneurship, food etiquette and science. FIT (Fitness in Training) Media Smart: Designed to empower youth to become aware of and think critically about the media’s role in influencing their health, make informed decisions about nutrition, establish healthy habits and physical activity. Social Emotional Learning (SEL): Youth will build skills in six SEL areas: Emotional Management, Empathy, Teamwork, Responsibility, Initiative and Problem Solving. Community Health Center of New Britain
The dedication to training the next generation of healthcare workforce is seen in the educational and training placements offered across the agency in all disciplines including medical, dental, behavioral health, and non-clinical healthcare students and residents in training. In the year 2019, CHC provided high-quality education and training opportunities to over 400 students and 120 residents in training. We have affiliation agreements with over 30 different educational institutions, including Yale, UCONN, Fairfield University, Quinnipiac University, Georgetown, Fordham University, University of Hartford, and health care institutions including, Middlesex, St. Francis, and Connecticut Children’s Hospitals. The capacity to provide educational instruction and hands-on training in our clinics and school based sites is due to the high-caliber and dedication of our CHC preceptors. Students and residents in training are exposed to a multi-disciplinary approach in a primary care setting that serves underserved populations. Community Mental Health Partners
CGC's provide a comprehensive array of behavioral health services to children, adolescents, and their families. Individual, family, and group modalities are utilized in accordance with a treatment plan developed by the client/family and the clinician. Psychiatric assessment and medication management are also provided. Clients and families are assisted with behavioral problems, ADHD, anxiety, depression, trauma, substance abuse, difficulties in school, and aggression. Issues related to family disruption such as divorce, visitation and reunification are also addressed. Services are provided by Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists, Social Workers, Psychologists, Child Psychiatrists, and Licensed Counselors. Funding for the Clinic and its programs is partially provided by the Department of Children and Families and the United Way of Central Connecticut.

3D CAD Modeling: Onshape, 8th -12th Grade

The primary focus of this course is to study and develop three-dimensional geometric computer models. The models will consist of, but will not be limited to, solid, and assembled solid models with an introduction to parametric modeling. Students will also develop multi-view drawings, including sections and auxiliary views, from some 3-D models. This course develops a person’s skill to understand the language of lines and shapes as it is used to convey ideas in industrial technologies, technical science as well as industry. Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC)
A program designed to serve males with a strong focus on juniors and seniors at New Britain High School that are not going on to further formal education. This program is intended to prepare them to enter today’s workforce with a focus on soft skills. Soft skills are personal attributes needed to succeed in the workplace such as work ethic, positive attitude, good communication skills, time management, problem solving, acting as a team player, self-confidence, and the ability to accept constructive criticism. Youth earn a ½ credit towards graduation.
